Series – We Series of 3 illustrations
Title – We Grow
Medium – sepia india ink, watercolour and coloured pencil on watercolour paper
Size – 3.5×2.5 inches (*ACEO size)
I’ve been experimenting through scanning my miniature illustrations at extremely high resolutions, 1200 dpi to be exact, and printing them out at 8.5×11 inch size. They look wonderful. We Grow is a large print to.
Have a look at the detail shots below.
An ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions and Originals. they must measure 2.5×3.5 inches and can be created out of any medium. They are an affordable way to collect original artwork.
For someone who is normally active in both movement and spirit my physical well being has been struck down to a dauntingly slow pace. I began feeling ill late last week and promptly drove myself to the medical clinic Tuesday evening after my symptoms began worsening and not improving after 5 days.
They diagnosed me with sinusitis and prescribed a 10 day course of amoxicillin. My family and many of friends got hit hard with whatever it is that is going around in Southern New Brunswick. Here, I thought I was immune. Haha. I had sinusitis 5 years ago and it lasted eight months. It will not last that long this time around.
The case of the elongated routine
Early last week I had begun my routine of getting up in the morning, brushing my teeth, showering (every second day), eating some breakfast and running my business for the day. I tend to rise at 10:00AM and go to sleep at 2:00AM. Seems to be natural for me so I stick with it. I don’t need an alarm to wake up with this time schedule. But, brushing my teeth now takes one hour and showering takes 2 hours and eating, well it’s hard when your appetite has depleted to that of a mouse.
I remembered having a case of Ensure tucked away in the cupboard for those times when my gut acts up as it does on occasion from having Crohn’s all those many years ago. Knock on wood it has remained in remission for the last 11 years. And one way I keep it in remission is to know my body and when the gut feels bad eat easily digestible food and in a few days I do feel great again. I eat pretty much everything except for olives. They turn my stomach as does tomato soup. Yet, I only cook with olive oil and eat many fresh tomatoes. Hmmm.
As part of the routine I had begun walking to the post office daily taking orders in hand to ship off to various destinations around the world. The post office is a 1/2 hour walk down hill from where I live and another 1/2 hour hike back up that incline. The walking halted abruptly on Thursday. I become tired climbing the one flight of stairs to my studio to work.
Working is good.
I can sit no problem. So, I’ve been working on creating limited edition prints, packaging orders, painting and readying my business for the Fall and Christmas season. I want to buy that three family home I dream of in uptown Saint John. I am working towards it. By Fall I hope to have 500 items listed in my Etsy shop. I have 157 right now. Another 343 to go.
And you know what feels good, I am doing this all on my own. There is no man in my life. I’m reaching for my dreams as twice now those dreams have been put on hold due to relationship breakups. And that is the way with life.
Never Never Never give up.

I’ll be drawing the winner and contacting them tonight.
This week I am giving away…
Mother Goose is Loose Creating Fairytales Everywhere!
Last time I gave away a Four Seasons Print.
The rules are simple
Leave your name, blog address (if you have one), and email (which I will not share) and comment on this post once only please. Next Tuesday I will randomly draw one name from the comments and mail you Mother Goose is Loose.
About Mother Goose is Loose
This print that I am giving away is a second. I had been wondering what to do with the beautiful reproductions that print out crooked, are a tad to bright or too dark, or I goofed up on cutting to small. Needless to say they exist in my studio. And I don’t believe in throwing them away. There is nothing wrong with these prints, except that they are seconds and don’t meet the standard I have in place for retailing at the regular price. Just as a potter has seconds so to does an artist. In the Fall I’ll be listing seconds for sale in my shop. Keep an eye out for those listings.
The print you will receive measures 7 3/8 by 7 3/8 inches rather than the 8×8 inch version I sell. The printed image size is 7×7 inches (same as the one I sell) and the color quality is identical. I will sign and date the back of this print and mark it as a second. Sooooo….
What if I WIN?
On that note, if you win I will contact you by the secret email you left here. I will need you to email me back with your accurate physical mailing address that will never be shared. I will ship worldwide for free! I’ll announce the winner publicly next Monday. Comments will close Monday, June 30, 2008 at 12:00AM AST.
… and What if I Don’t Win?
And if you don’t win the print, it is available for purchase in my Art shop.
I drew this drawing using a Micron 005 nib pen and later digitally colored it in Adobe Photoshop.
The Sassy Sea Urchin is listed in the shop. You can see the Sassy’s brother and the original ink drawings here.
Beachy Beachy Beach!
I ordered these art supplies from DickBlick a few weeks ago and they arrived early last week. I feel like a kid again. I love mail order.
Sadly I would buy all these things locally but they are non-existent here. Square unlined artist quality journals never. Faber Castell Pitt Artist pens… nope. And finally itty bitty stretched canvass you won’t find in Saint John New Brunswick except at Jessica Doyle’s house!
I can finish these three paintings I began. It sucks when you run out of an art supply and it’s not available anywhere close to where you live. I use a combination of India Ink and acrylic on board and Canvass. Over time and through trial and error I’ve developed a way to seal the india ink with varnish without it running. Faber Castell Pens contain India ink FYI.
Naked Milton the Fish above lower right has since been watercolored and has become one of my best selling ACEO mini prints. He’s now available as a VERY limited edition 11×8.5 inch print. The boxes are also done and listed.
I am looking forward to putting pen to board to finish these three paintings. And guess what they are larger than an ACEO!
And thanks to Shane Vorhaben for introducing these pens to me. I am addicted.
