Martha the Elephant – Illustration

Elephant art by Jessica Doyle

I drew her with Pilot G-tec C4 pens, Pilot Hi-tec C pens, Pilot opaque white ink, water and Prismacolor Verithin colored pencils on 8.5 by 11 inch (21,6cm by 27,9cm) smooth white paper.

I should add that this illustration was inspired by Christopher Dewan of The Urban Sherpa. He’s beginning an online literary magazine called 3 Blind Elephants and is accepting submissions.

8×10 inch Archival prints of Martha the Elephant are available for purchase in the shop.

I love the watercolor and pen combo. It gives it so much depth. Excellent piece Jessica.

Andrew – I actually didn’t use any watercolour in this piece. the Pilot pens I use are water soluble. I achieved the effect simply by adding water to Martha after the piece was drawn. It’s a similar process to using water coloured pencil crayons. Glad you like it! :)

Thanks Kimberly and thesydneygirl!

Hi, I intend to have an elephant tattoo and look for a drawing on the internet. I really like your creative idea which makes the elephant abstract but vivid. Would you mind if I have your drawing on my arm?
If so, could you pls email the pics to my mailbox at juanitalin@gmail.com…I promise I WILL NOT use it for any commercial purpose and will show you the beautiful tattoo after having it. Anyway, no matter you could help or not, I appreciate and look forward to your kind reply.^^

Hi Juanita

The easiest thing to do would be to purchase a print of Martha from my art shop and that way you have paid for it and you then will have my permission to get a tattoo with it.

Thanks so much for liking my art and for asking :)
