ACEO Collection – And then there were wine bottles

These little illustrative ACEO’s were inspired by the Happinez Wine Bar located in Uptown Saint John. They are the first six in a series of nine wine bottle themed ACEO’s.

You can see how they progressed from ink drawing to watercolour to the now finished ACEO with the final coloured penciling touches laid down on them.

I’ll be blogging the other three in this series tomorrow. Hope you like them!

If there is one that you need to own, they are $70CAD a piece plus shipping. Simply let me know via a comment or use the nifty contact form on this blog to get in touch with me and I’ll Paypal invoice you. These ACEO’s will not be listed in my Etsy Art Shop as they are being created for the Upcoming Saint John Gallery Hop.

ACEO Gallery Hop Poster – You are invited

Jorgen Klausen, photographer and owner of the Klausen Gallery designed this fabulous poster for the upcoming group exhibit taking place on May 7, 2010 during the next Saint John Gallery Hop.

Both Milton the Fish and Annabelle the Fish are featured on the poster.

I am madly working on those ACEO’s. I have four more to finish then must scan them and bring them over to the gallery. I will post the final scans to the blog so that you can see them to. I will have both open edition and limited edition ACEO prints, originals and boxed sets of ACEO’s on hand at the show.

An ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions and Originals. They must always measure 2.5 by 3.5 inches and can be created with any medium. They are the exact size of a hockey or Magic trading card. And trust me, they do look lovely matted and framed into an 8×10 inch frame.

Hope to see you out at the Gallery Hop! xo

Wild ride and come down

Everyone gets days and sometimes weeks where everything is thrown around and life literally becomes a never ending roller coaster ride… This is one of those times unedited and without links…

The roller-coaster began last week with an Etsy convo that I sent to MaryMary about a video and then a phone call that my boyfriend’s father was in the hospital. I’ve never met his family. We’ve only been together for one month but it feels like four months. Continue reading

Series of Greeting Cards – A Little Something

The flowers are just beginning to show themselves here popping up through the ground in the port city of Saint John. For me this is generally a very happy time of year where most of the drawings and illustrations that I completed during Wintertime are scanned and turned into prints and paper goods.

Adding Watercolour to the ACEO’s

I began adding watercolour to the ACEO’s for the upcoming Saint John Gallery Hop. There are 16 new ACEO’s in total that I am madly working on for this show. The final step will be to add coloured pencil on top of the watercolour and perhaps a little bit more detailed pen and ink work.

Artist Jessica Doyle is painting ACEO's in her studio

These originals will not be listed for sale online in my Etsy shop. However, when they are completed I will blog them and give you the option to buy them right here from the blog. You can see the first step in how I began creating these ACEO’s in the previous post.

Life is good! Hope you are well!

ACEO drawings for the upcoming Saint John Gallery Hop Show and yes, I’m dating someone special

The Saint John Gallery Hop is fast approaching and I have been busy working on new pieces for the miniature ACEO group show being held at the Klausen Art Gallery. I thought I’d share with you some progress shots to illustrate how many of the illustrations I create begin.

assortment of ACEO drawings from artist Jessica Doyle

All of these drawings are created with Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens on archival mat board that Mr. Klausen pre-cut and gave to me the last time I was in to visit. I keep most of my pens inside a chocolate tin that my Mom gave me. I have four of these tins. They’re great for art supply storage!

I wanted to draw something other than florals so I began drawing wine bottles using sepia, sanguine and black inks while I was out enjoying a glass of wine at Happinez two weeks ago. Happinez is a little wine bar located on Princess St. in Uptown Saint John, NB. They serve wine from all over the world. It has a wonderful ambient atmosphere and the clientele tends to be aged 25 and up.
