Seasonal Kaleidoscopes or Why I Like Winter

Thumbnail image for Seasonal Kaleidoscopes or Why I Like Winter

Each Winter I seem to migrate no hibernate into my dreams, put paint brush to hand and begin painting floral and embellished little artworks. Stroke after stroke I load the paintbrush and simply paint. I think it dawned on me that much of my recent angst was due to not letting my mind flow freely [...]

A New Brunswick Diary

Dear Diary,
Aug 12 – Moved to our new home in New Brunswick. It is so beautiful here. The northern woods are so majestic. Can hardly wait to see snow. I love it here.
Oct 14 – New Brunswick is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves have turned colors – shades of red and orange. [...]

The intelligence of machines during a recession

Thumbnail image for The intelligence of machines during a recession

On Boxing Day evening I headed uptown with Karen to share a drink at Happinez before going dancing at one of the local clubs where we were to meet up with Lisa and Jilian.
We began walking down King Street so that I could stop at my branch’s bank machine to avoid banking fees to [...]

The shoveling of Snow and housekeeping of home

Thumbnail image for The shoveling of Snow and housekeeping of home

On Sunday, Saint John received it’s first snowfall. And with that comes the task of clearing of said snow from walkways, stairs, driveways and decks. I was pooped after shoveling, only to have to clean up the house afterwords.
Each Sunday, I strip the tenants beds, wash linens and towels, vacuum, clean the bathrooms and basically [...]

Thoughts on that Christmas Art Show at Harbour Station

Thumbnail image for Thoughts on that Christmas Art Show at Harbour Station

Well, now that a few days have passed, my mind seems to be calming from the experience of prepping, setting up, selling, tearing down and unpacking from the Art’s and Craft’s Sale held at Harbour Station this past weekend.
I’m not sure if my mind has calmed much if at all. It seems to be on [...]

Happy Holiday Ordering Deadlines

Thumbnail image for Happy Holiday Ordering Deadlines

Unlike, in the world of offline shopping one can literally shop inside warm stores until December 24th and still have time to package and deliver that gift to it’s special recipient in time for holiday gift giving. Well, this scenario does not hold true for online shopping… however you do get to shop from the [...]

Welcome to the Kitchen and Bathroom

Thumbnail image for Welcome to the Kitchen and Bathroom

In the kitchen we cut both the upper and lower cupboards to fit the new fridge in place. Doing this decreased my counter space considerably as the opposite side of the kitchen houses a vintage Youngstown Kitchen by Mullino double sink.

Underneath the sink and inside the bottom cupboards there was a piece of vinyl [...]

Yes, that’s me wearing the industrial strength breathing mask sanding hardwood floors

Thumbnail image for Yes, that’s me wearing the industrial strength breathing mask sanding hardwood floors

The dust doth fly when sanding old varnish off of hardwood floors.
I began writing this post on June 22, 2009…
Now that the wall painting is complete we began sanding the hardwood floors on the second floor of the house. I used the edger at 5 minute intervals. Every muscle in my body was hurting [...]

And the paper fell to the floor in wet sticky clumps then we painted the walls

Thumbnail image for And the paper fell to the floor in wet sticky clumps then we painted the walls

After a week of wetting, scraping and peeling wallpaper off the four upstairs bedrooms, bathroom and sitting room the antique plaster walls were revealed. And to our surprise, namely my Dad who is a mason by trade, the plaster underneath was in excellent condition only needing minor touch-ups to fill in cracks and holes.
In two [...]

Whilst driving home on Saturday night I hit this stillness of noise

Let me elaborate:
The roads in Saint John are not for the faint of heart. They are twisting, potted, patched and pitted with most yellow and white lines missing or faded beyond recognition. Decades of shaded grey tar and layered pavement speckle the streets, avenues and thruways of this industrial seaside city. If you are not [...]

So I do have a hobby and it’s not art

Thumbnail image for So I do have a hobby and it’s not art

Many people hold a regular job and create art or craft as their hobby. I am quite the opposite in choosing art as my career and conversely, research both vintage and antique items to sell online as my hobby. Well over a year ago I secretly opened a second shop, OLDisNEW. I sell books, paper, [...]

Fermenting Canadian Ice Wine

Thumbnail image for Fermenting Canadian Ice Wine

I think I miss the point completely on occasion and float away into my own little world forgetting that which exists and already surrounds me. Then I get to thinking about that point and why it has to be tipped and pointy and why is can’t be round, soft and interchangeable with beams of light [...]
