Happy Hallowe’en friends!
PS – no cat’s were harmed in the writing of this blog post
Have you ever seen so many buds on a Christmas Cactus?
My mom gave me this cactus when I moved into my house a few months ago. She has three or four of them growing in her house. I sat the cactus in the sun room and forgot about it. I really did forget about it. I didn’t water it. I didn’t talk to it. I didn’t touch it.
About a month ago my mom was visiting as she has been known to do on occasion and walked into the sunroom and quickly stomped out of the sun room through the living room and into my studio horrified, cactus in hand exclaiming “IT NEEDS WATER!” I looked at it all withered and spiny and starving and giggled “Mom it’s a cactus and not a succulent.”
She placed it back on the corner stand where it was originally dieing. That night I went over and looked at Herbert (yeah, I’ll call him Herbert) thinking, maybe you do need a little water. I carried him into the kitchen, filled a bowl of water and sat him in it. He drank for a good hour and afterwords I returned him to that corner stand in the sun room.
Two weeks ago, Herbert had little itty bitty buds. I gave him more water and moved him into the living room.
Today he’s full of buds! And he’ll likely bloom right around Birthday time and not Christmas time.
And it is so pretty just sitting in the box.
Me – It arrived!
Missy the grey cat – MEOW!
McGandy the orange Cat – Meow!
Me – Isn’t it cool! (Trying to hold back tears and jumping up and down while the delivery guy is still there waiting for my signature at the front door)
Missy – Meow. Can I get in the box now?
McGandy – Feed me.
Needless to say, I can’t wait to test it out. I’ll be able to print on canvas, heavy card stock, watercolour paper and best of all be able to offer hand coloured reproductions of my ink drawings in limited editions. It prints using UltraChrome K3 pigment based inks which are waterproof and will last for up to 300 years under glass. I am currently using an HP Photosmart printer that prints with dye based inks which are not waterproof, will last for 70-100 years and am limited to letter sized heavy paper stock which isn’t bad… but this is better!
Last night I wrote to Epson with a pretty big question after reading through the documentation that accompanied the printer.
Once I hear back from them and get the go ahead to plug in, I will. And, if they say don’t do it your PowerBook will blow up! I’ll simply purchase a new Macbook.
I can increase RAM and update my operating system, yet, I can’t go to G5 or Intel from G4 and can’t increase to 1.67GHZ from 1GHZ as that.is.impossible.
So, I have my cake and I need to wait to eat it.
…but it’s worth it!
I’ll post a review as soon as I am technologically capable to.
Note to self – either use the flash or don’t use the flash when taking photos
Orange cat always wants food. She’s 18, so I usually give in and give it to her.
Grey cat is 11 and always wants into every box I open.
Earlier this evening while sitting outside I began sneezing then rubbing my eyes then scratching my inner thighs. Something had stung me moments earlier while I was curled up inside with a knitted afgan. Hives began to appear. I run inside grab the afgan chuck it outside and onto the deck and immediately jaunt to the bathroom douse the spot with peroxide and swallow yet another half of a sleep inducing antihistamine pill.
My mother grabs the afgan and shook. Sure enough a small winged creature flew out of it.
There exists only two forms of antihistamine; one that causes you great energy and alertness while the other drowsiness. I choose to take diphenhydramine- hydrochloride which is the eldest form of allergy meds available for public consumption. It makes me sleepy though and not able to concentrate if I take the full 25mg. I take half instead. The other contains ephedrine and caffeine which can cause you not to be able to sit still which not so good when you work on a computer or are trying to draw. Your drawings will resemble seismographic outputs and you will click needlessly and repeatedly with your mouse.
May and August are the worst two months. The rest of the year is not so bad. I was treated for severe allergies while living out West in Vancouver. The doctors treated me for cat, dog, birch and alder tree allergies. Dust and dust mite shit are the worst two offenders though. They treated me for those allergens to by injecting minute amounts of mite shit into my arm. It worked. For a whole year I had hives on my arms from the treatment and had to take anti-histamine daily but hey, I can actually clean my house now and during 10 months of the year I am relatively normal without having to ingest allergy medication.
This weekend I will be buying some local honey. Everyday for the next couple of weeks I will take a teaspoon of it and see if it works. A few folks mentioned it does as local honey would contain tiny amounts of the pollen that is making me miserable and in essence do the same thing that the injections of mite turd did.
Coping with allergies sucks… plain and simple.
Usually have a piece of large paper or mat board that get used as a tester for color or to get my pen working during a moment of angst when it is not flowing, and even to draw upon when the drawing you are drawing sucks!
As is the case…
I began singing this song in my head after accidentally turning both a perfectly happy fish and birdie into sad and frustrated looking creatures by messing toooooo much with their eyes…
No one loves me
Everybody hates me
Going to the garden to eat worms
Big fat juicy ones
Small skinny slimy ones…
And we all know what happens when we mess with to much with EYEballs!
