Video Interview with Elastic Lab – Working the 9 to 5 job was killing me

Last Fall, I was contacted by videographer Frank Sheppard of Elastic Lab to do an interview for their Culture of Content Creation Series. The interview is live now! Go watch it! or watch it below.

Working the 9 to 5 job was killing me from Elastic Lab on Vimeo.

From the site:

In today’s world of social media, digital voices rant and rave, ruminate on their experiences, give life to the world’s causes, bring fame to the worthy, bring shame to the unworthy, denounce dishonesty and evil, and preach a million variations on truth. But while the voices are loud, the social media movement is, for the most part, a faceless movement. Conversations, discussions, relationships, business partnerships, and friendships exist where face-to-face encounters do not. Such is the nature of the Internet, and why this project, The Culture of Content Creation, was launched.

My segment is entitled Working the 9 to 5 job was killing me. I talk about how I how and why I began blogging and how it lead me to what I do today.

I’m honored to be a part of this project. Hope you all enjoy the interview.

And thank you Frank for contacting me to do this!

UPDATE – Thank you to Julie Morey who pointed out in the comments that I could embed this video into my blog from Vimeo! 😀 And to see pictures of my studio please visit this blog post.

Thank you Shayla Video

This video is in response to Shayla Maddox’s Video!

In late December 2009 when I began painting Christmas ornaments, Shayla began painting pretty ornaments to. We talked on twitter and decided to exchange ornaments with each other.

Hope we can make this an annual Christmas tradition Shayla!

Go see Shayla’s light reactive paintings in her Etsy Shop or say hi to her on Twitter. Her husband, C. Jacob is also on twitter and has an Etsy shop to!

I finished painting those Christmas balls!

I finally finished painting those balls I began earlier. Five are going as Christmas gifts to friends and family. I am keeping one for myself and I’m also doing a trade with the uber talented Shayla Maddox for one of her hand painted balls.

And I’m aware that the sound is not the greatest in this video. Blame it on the giant pimple! 😉

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Hope you’ll all enter the end of year art giveaway worth $165 of handmade by me goods!

You have to see the teeth to blow out the candles!

Saturday night I held a gathering and potluck at my house to celebrate my 36th Birthday with close friends and family. About 15 people came. Later that same night when five of us remained we began playing on the iMac using iSight to record ourselves. Ha!

Thanks everyone who came over to celebrate with me! xoxo

And thanks everyone for the wonderful gifts! I think every second person brought me a flowering plant to put in the sunroom. I had a wonderful time :)

PS – if you have pictures from that night please email them to me.

2010 Art Calendar (12 month handmade archival print sampler)

Earlier this week I finished designing my first ever calendar featuring twelve of my most popular prints. It looks lovely hanging on the wall or sitting against a window or on a shelf.

This fourteen page twelve month calendar features a different illustration for each month, including the Sassy Sea Urchin and the Four Seasons which mark the change of each season. It was designed and illustrated by me, Jessica Doyle.

I printed each calendar page using archival Epson Ultrachrome ink on premium matte paper, meaning it will last a lifetime. The pages including a front and back cover are bound together with a sheer nylon ribbon here in my studio located in Saint John, NB, Canada. The pages are 4.25 by 11 inches (10,8cm by 28cm)

Best of all… because of the way I designed this calendar, the reproductions can easily be trimmed for matting and framing afterwords. And it makes a wonderful gift.

It’s available on Artfire and on Etsy.

A Video Thank You

The following is a Video thank you from MsDragonfly who won first prize in the Pick What You Win Art Giveaway.

When I ship art I always ask the person who bought it or won it as is the case here to let me know when it arrives. This helps me keep track of shipping times from me to you and also just to know that it did indeed arrive and wasn’t lost in the mail.

Thank you MsDragonfly.
This video is SWEET!
So glad you like them! :)
