I have not been able to write lately. In actuality, the thoughts in my head are so hurried and are far outpacing my ability to even jot them down in a coherent manner for you to read most days. So, that leaves me with drawing, gardening and working on my top secret e-commerce site.
I’m having trouble following directions, understanding them and thus implementing them.
I’ve got about 25 (maybe 2,500) major projects on the go all at once and until they are done my finances slowly slip and slide and miraculously carry me through. I’m not in debt and refuse to go into debt or even to use credit cards. My bills are all paid. I don’t know how I do it sometimes, but I do.
Family and friends and people I don’t know are coming at me from all directions and truth be told I’m close to screaming. Add to that mix, a third break up since January and I’m really through with dating all together. I just can’t bring myself to continue dating someone when we are not physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually compatible and most importantly in love. And I’m fully aware that not everything will be perfect, but I do believe in love at first site and I do believe in getting my major needs met when in a relationship. And I know that if I’m not happy I’ll go looking elsewhere. And that, is hard to admit. Continue reading →
The guilt arrives in waves. For many this guilt is something you may never experience. It could be something you experience daily.
It’s a form of anxiety associated with earning money. That’s the only way I can describe this; that knowledge that one is beginning to earn more than poverty level income and entering into the middle class dream.
I mean, I’ve never had to deal with earning much money by Canadian standards or budgeting in larger amounts each month.
All I want to say is dream, then think of that dream and make it a reality. This dream has to do with money and making money in a way that is healthy, self gratifying and brings happiness or emotion into the world; a contribution. Continue reading →
In today’s world of social media, digital voices rant and rave, ruminate on their experiences, give life to the world’s causes, bring fame to the worthy, bring shame to the unworthy, denounce dishonesty and evil, and preach a million variations on truth. But while the voices are loud, the social media movement is, for the most part, a faceless movement. Conversations, discussions, relationships, business partnerships, and friendships exist where face-to-face encounters do not. Such is the nature of the Internet, and why this project, The Culture of Content Creation, was launched.
I use the dining room in the house as my studio. In behind the computer desk there is a built in china cabinet that upon further inspection used to be a double width doorway likely built in the 1950’s that used to lead into a littler room which is now the laundry room. I use the china cabinet for storing most of my smaller original artworks, journals, sketchbooks and handpainted items. It keeps the dust off of them. And a newer single width doorway was added to enter the kitchen around the same time.
Old houses have history and if you begin looking hard enough you’ll find old doorways that have long since been forgotten about and nooks and crannies that you didn’t realize existed before.
I did a major clean-up of the studio this past weekend and took many before and after shots. Above is the computer desk area where my iMac is housed and the great big wooden bin that my grandfather built where I keep some of my packaging supplies. My cousin’s parents gave me the white desk shortly after I bought my house. And to the right on the IKEA shelf is where I store greeting cards, prints, packaging, certificates and other art supplies. …reading back in my Buzz stream and reading back in the Buzz streams of the people listed below and commenting on the Buzz post that you learn from or liking it as that action will bump the Buzz post to the top again allowing new Buzz users to see it and learn from it to.
I’ve been on Google Buzz for close to a month now and find it both invigorating and challenging at the same time. It’s taken me out of the safety zone of both Facebook and Twitter and thrust me into a new world where everyone with whom adopted the technology around the same time that I did, have become my Buzz friends. We communicate and share ideas. We argue, we learn and grow together. We made the rules.
These folks will teach you a lot about Google Buzz
Clicking their name will take you to their Buzz Stream while the second link will take you to their blog if they have one
Angel Leon – He burst onto Google Buzz creating the Mooooooooar Follower rage. If you weren’t there when it happened… well… that content has since been removed. His stream is colourful with opinions on technology and this father to be shares his every day life to.
Chris Loft – very first person to ReBuzz my content. He is an artist and musician and finds and shares some of the best and lesser known visually stimulating content on the web.
Masha Du Toit – one of the first artists I met on Buzz (YAY!) who is actively using it to. Her Buzz stream is most pleasing to the eye.
I would never have met any of these people if it weren’t for Buzz. Keep that in mind when you begin using Buzz and your time their will be most enjoyable. Buzz is about conversation. It is about learning. It is about sharing and discussing hot topics. It is about breaking away from the norm and not being afraid to do it. It is about open web standards. It is about blogging. It is about business. It is about being yourself.
It is about the future of the web and it’s happening right now in real-time.
Don’t you, as an online content creator, wish you were paid just a little when you mention a product that you use everyday. I think I’ve mentioned Pilot G-tec pens a gazillion times on this blog, with Apple, Faber Castell and Arches following close behind. I’d be a little better off if these companies paid me just a little.
I think in part, I don’t mention these companies more, because I’m not being paid, regardless of how much I use their product. I find myself leaving their name out of posts and simply writing created with india ink, watercolor and paper rather than created with Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens, Windsor & Newton Watercolor and Arches Watercolor paper. I wonder how many of you when out shopping for supplies and/or products, thought of that blog post, Etsy listing or Tweet which mentioned that product you were out shopping for directly or indirectly, and purchased said product.
