After many weeks of working on her she is now completed. I had some issues with the original digital scans and chose to scrap them and rescan her which took some time. She turned out pretty cute as she blows bubbles to water and grow her garden of pink flowers. Continue reading
If you are an artist you’ve likely been drawing since you were very young in age. These are two of my ink drawings from 1984. I would have been 11 years old when I drew both of these on pretty pink and yellow papers with a blue Bic pen. Continue reading
Yaelfran from Argentina contacted me in late August to ask if I’d be interested in submitting a drawing to the We Are… series of colouring books she produces monthly. Of course I said yes! What artist doesn’t love illustrating for children! And to quote the listing:
I can’t tell you how exited I am about this wonderful project.
“WE ARE…” is a monthly publication, that showcases Etsy’s artists illustrations in black for you to paint or just to keep as they are.
Every month we will featuring a group of 15 illustrators who will showcase their interpretation of a different theme. There will be also SPECIAL EDITIONS, like HALLOWEEN or CHRISTMAS ones.
This publication is printed on 250 gr paper, with a professional printer. It’s size is 4 x 6 inches closed. A very sweet size that gives you the possibility to take it with you in your bag, wallet, pocket, etc.
You can also separate the pages (by trimming them carefully) and have different and gorgeous postcards!!!!!
And below is the drawing I submitted to We Are Healthy of raindrops falling on a flower and a vine helping them both grow healthy.

You can buy the colouring book in Yaelfran’s Etsy shop.
Chickens with one leg
holding their eggs
perched on their nests
I love drawing with children in mind. This miniature measures 3 by 3 inches or 75mm by 75mm. I drew it with india ink, painted it with watercolor and finished it with lightfast colored pencil on heavy hot press watercolor paper.
While in my final year of college in Fredericton I spent six month’s independently studying and creating children’s illustration. Was one of my favorite times. I actually made the dean’s list upon graduating in 1996 and pursued graphic design for the next 10 years only illustrating when it was part of the job and when I had precious time.
I’ve been digging out much of my research and rough sketches for inspiration since moving back to Saint John. This chicken children’s illustration is newly created and oddly enough, not derived from a past endeavor.
Where did these one legged chickens come from then?
I wonder if the little dude found them?
You can find them in my art shop.
Here’s a blast from the past! I dug through my School Treasures scrap book and found a springtime drawing I drew that I happened to win first prize on. I was six years old and in grade one. Gotta love those bumblebees, flowers and butterflies!
