Smelting Self Confidence

I walked into the kitchen to wash my hands and met a ghastly hilarious sink filled with smelt. It took me by surprise. I stepped back, laughed and walked to the bathroom to wash there instead.

My uncle had been ice fishing for smelt and Mom was thawing out the frozen fish for cleaning, then cooking.

Later that night (last night) I attended a party at my brother‘s place. I was holding onto optimism that sales would increase this coming week and decided to leave my laptop, business and ideas at home so that I could relax, have a few drinks and hang out with great people, some of whom, I’ve known since early childhood.

A few hours into the party I secured a small design contract and a babysitting job.

So, how does self confidence relate to Smelt? Continue reading

New Art & Craft Supplies and Introducing itsy-bitsy Greeting Card Sets

fanshefolds from New York. She has access to so many exciting papers that I can only dream of getting here in Saint John. Many of my original ACEO’s are created on her rounded corner acid free ACEO stock.

The mini envelope craft punch makes these sweet envelopes that measure 1.5 x 1 inch (38mm x 22mm). They are tiny!

I created miniature greeting card sets using the punch and various other tools that will remain a mystery to you as I can’t give all my secrets away. 😉

Annabelle came into being a few days ago. She was created with Faber Castell india ink, Windsor and Newton watercolour and Prismacolor Verithin colored pencils. She is an ACEO which stands for Art, Cards, Editions and Originals. The original measures 3.5 by 2.5 inches.

Reproductive prints in larger sizes are available in both my Etsy and Artfire shops.

Annabelle has one older sister named Emily and four older brothers named Milton, George, Eddie and Francis.

Spotted Eddie – yes, he’s a cutie of a fish

ACEO original art named "Spotted Eddie" fish by artist jessica doyle

Finished this little cutie the other day. He measures a robust 3.5 by 3.5 inches and is sports the latest in ACEO fashion of having rounded corners. Both the original ACEO and limited Edition ACEO mini prints are available in my shop for purchase.

He was created with india ink, acrylic and pilot pen on heavy grey-green rounded corner acid free card stock.

An ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions and Originals. They are a great way to collect affordable art and are the exact same size as a Hockey or Magic card.

Meet Emily the Fish (Milton’s Little Sister), learn about treasuries and Etsy front page appearances

I created Emily with india ink, watercolour and pilot pens on acid free card stock. The original measures 3.5 by 2.5 inches and is for sale at the Klausen Gallery. Prints are available in my shop from mini print size up to 11 by 8.5 inch size.

And this is Emily’s big brother, Milton the fish. Milton made the front page a few weeks ago. Thank you Organikx for curating a wonderful treasury.

Etsy Front Page Jessica Doyle art

A treasury can be curated by any registered member of the Etsy community. Both buyers and sellers can curate. The Etsy Administration picks one treasury out of hundreds to be featured on the front page usually once per hour per day. On average there are 18 to 24 treasuries featured on the front page everyday each containing 12 items with 3 items in reserve if one or more of those featured 12 sell while on the front page. In total there are a possible 288 slots per day.

This week I introduced matting and backing into the shop for the 5×7 inch print size. They look pretty good. More sizes will follow as the month progresses.
