Do you decorate?
I’ve always adored holiday decorations. Or, at least, I used to, before I had adult responsibilities and recognized that I was short on space. (Clutter didn’t bother me as much as a child.) Even the holiday decorations in stores made me giddy, and I dreamed of which “style” I would put up if I were grown up and had my own home.
Now I am, and I do, but I’m not very interested in decorating. Which makes me sad.
In fact, I’ve become less interested in decorations the bigger my home has gotten. I put more effort into decorating when I was 21 – and squished into a small apartment with 3 other people – than I do now. I don’t know why.
Well, yes I do. Now my priorities are different. My business is my focus. My studio has expanded exponentially with each move we’ve made, thereby rendering any “bigger space” irrelevant. I also grew to hate clutter, in part because I spend all my time in a messy studio. It doesn’t help that I try to be all minimalist and Zen. It’s hard to fit multicolored lights and reindeer into that. Continue reading
I find myself at a crossroads at the moment and unsure of what road to travel down.
Do I pack up, sell the house and move into a smaller home or into an apartment? I did the cost crunching and it would basically cost about the same as where I’m living right now. So, I am staying put. One decision made.
Do I continue to find people to rent rooms to? This is the nagging question that’s been spiralling in my head as of late. I had many problems last Fall with the people I was renting to; missing tenants, unpaid rent and excessive use of scented products which in the case of the latter I’m severely allergic to.
The missing tenant was thankfully found after I was featured on the local news and is coming clean on the money he owes me while another tenant will likely be served legal papers and taken to court for the monies he owes to me. Oddly enough the third tenant who wears excessive cologne wants to move back in and when I received the email I spat out a mouthful of water onto my desk in shock. What did he not understand? Even the money he paid his rent with reeked of cologne and made my finger tips swell when handling it and I had to encase it in plastic before travelling to deposit it at the bank. This same person vehemently hated cats and hissed and shoed Missy repeatedly telling me to keep her out of his room. I said you’ll have to accept that she lives here and this is her home and that if you don’t want her in your room you’ll have to gently pick her up and place her outside of your room. The dotted lines are signed as of May 28, 2009, the keys handed over and all is well in my new home except for the decades worth of wallpaper that I’m removing from three of the upstairs bedrooms. It normally doesn’t come off as easy as this wall did. In fact, this was the only wall that peeled in this way. Each and every other wall is painstakingly tedious to wet, scrape, peel, wet, scrape, peel…
I’ll officially be moving in on June 9th when the kitchen appliances and beds I ordered arrive.
The tale is being told in pictures on Flickr (28 pictures and counting) and in mighty fine tweets on Twitter. Hope you’ll join me!
Oh, and I’m 22 days smoke free today! And it has not been easy at times. Hit the more button at the bottom of my twitter and you’ll read why.
And add to the stress of non-smoking and buying a house; I’ve had my period for 8 days straight. I’m tired. I know it’s due to having an IUD. I will be going to doctor soon to get it taken out. This is an ongoing monthly issue for me that seems to be getting worse as the months progress since having the copper IUD inserted 2.5 years ago.
I can’t wait to set my studio up!
I woke today to find that my art is featured in 11 treasuries. There is a site called Craftopolis that lets you see the current treasuries you are featured in on Etsy. Hope you’ll visit each one or stop by the shop to say hi!
The researching and later, packing began in early November, hrmmm June 2008. You know how it gets when things become crowded and you can’t do what you need to do anymore in order to expand and grow.
You might notice things become a little wonky over the next few days as I migrate to self-hosting WordPress Blogging software again.
I currently blog on WordPress.com, a free blogging platform and forward my domain(s) here. It’s been great! I loved my time here. They were here when my finances ran dry and I could no longer afford to self-host anymore. Well, it’s come full circle and to advance I must move beyond. So thank you WordPress.com for the last year of awesomeness!
Eric was home all last week from work with a pretty serious case of pink eye. It is rather hilarious to see a man of six foot two be unable to do the simplest things such as drive or watch TV. He is addicted to TV. From Monday to Wednesday he was unable to open his eye for longer than a few seconds. When I went over to turn the noise and image machine off he would whine out from underneath his hideout of pillows and blankets “leave it ONNNNNN!”. I said but you are not watching it. He replied he was listening to it. Good God. lol.
