Employee of the Month – my Mom

Thumbnail image for Employee of the Month – my Mom

UPDATE – Mom just frantically phoned and informed me that it is not employee of the month but a monthly “Choosing your Attitude” and that there are three people per month chosen for this because of their great attitude. I still like to think of it as employee of the month though!
Well, I need to [...]

And a wave of sadness washed over me

Thumbnail image for And a wave of sadness washed over me

Between life becoming busy and life seeming mundane, grey and somewhat frustrating I can’t say that I haven’t been feeling sad lately because I have.
Sadness Rant
I’m tired of being single and feeling lonely
I’m tired of people writing and blatantly saying they are going to copy me but as they don’t sell on Etsy; it’s ok.
I’m [...]

Guest Post by Susan L. Guran

January 29, 2009
Dear Jessica,
On a practical note . . . I was thrilled with how quickly, efficiently and graciously you handled our project together. Your skills and talents are impressively evident when looking at your work in all contexts. You seem to understand your medium(s) intimately and were willing to experiment and try [...]

X-Weighted

The veil slips over her face
and she enters the nether regions of her mind
Honesty seeps out
it has no where to hide.
In an attempt to…
a struggle ensues
the world watches
she ducks just one to many punches
and the weight
becomes more than
she
can
bare.
You can read more of my poetry here.

About having a good cry

I cried last night.
I cried quietly at first hiding my tears.
I then cried louder.
I began crying softer.
I cried.
I cried.
I cried.
I cried for peace of mind.
I cried for love.
I cried in vain simply to be heard.
I cried because I miss my grandmother.
I cried because I am exhausted.
I cried because I loath my job at times.
I cried [...]

Another land another day another dream

Thumbnail image for Another land another day another dream

Sometimes art needs to take you away
to another land where flowers spin,
the terrain is checkered moss green and ocher;
where the grass grows as bamboo
and is pointy at it’s tip.
I created this art card using Kroma artist quality acrylic, pigmented ink and archival pen on 1/8″ (3mm) thick cold press illustration board. It is varnished three [...]

It tasted like chewing on pennies and soap

…prior to five days ago.
I suffered unknowingly for close to four weeks
with this awful metallic soapy taste
in my mouth.
No amount of salt could dilute
this abstergent awful pungent state.
I was not ingesting antibiotics
nor was I crunching copper crumbs at breakfast.
As quickly as the onset of this malady hit, it’s remedy
quickly brushed
it
away
Cleeeeeeeean.
Sadly, four weeks ago I [...]

I watched them pack or Seasons Greetings!

I watched them pack sunflowers
I watched them pack autumn leaves
I watched them pack orange berries
amidst stems and wreaths
I watched them count
I watched them punch it in
I watched them count
I watched them pack
it in…
to oversize black garbage bags,
Autumns last breeze.
It will not compost
As it is mostly plastic
Nor be loved
or be seen for a million years
lest humans [...]

Urban Tumbleweed

This tumbleweed rolled into view
across the street in shoppers parking
He made air hitting that grassy knoll
up to the sidewalk
he barely hesitated caring not to look both ways
to cross that four lane street.
The wind savage
The clouds dark purple, pink and grey
and daylight fading
fast…
[...]

Do you have herpes?

I do. Herpes Simplex 1 to be exact. The kind that form on one’s lips. The lips on your face, not the genital ones.
I was blessed at an early age to catch the herpes virus. Sure enough every school year during class photographs a monstrous sore appeared just off center to the right on my [...]

Have you ever tried to work out the way you think.

I think about this person saying these things to another person.
“She is fabulous!
She is an artist”
“Oh really
tell me more”
Tonight it dawned on me. It rose up beyond the clouds into perception;
into reality.
I think about people and what they think of me
much of the time.
Is that,
what I am thinking?
No.
I think about those people saying things to [...]

Pouring the foundation

I cracked a jar of Gesso
this passed Tuesday evening
brush in hand
swiping white abound
flatly
evenly
then crudely
laying it down
on masonite board
preferring wood to canvass
and paper
with
pen

Into Today – paragraphed poem

Thumbnail image for Into Today – paragraphed poem

Today I will be small. Today I am humble. Today I am thinking good thoughts. I am thinking sad thoughts of what came before today. I see these sad thoughts through a screen today. This screen is a mail sorter. This mail sorter is the sorter of memories. He can encircle a memory numerous ways [...]
