Spring Cleaning Sale – 25% OFF

About once per season I run a lovely sale in the fine art shop.

Use coupon code “SPRING2011” for 25% OFF your total order during check-out.

This sale will run May 9th to May 14th in my Etsy Art Shop.

As wedding season approaches keep in mind that fine art does make a wonderful gift to those two special people who are tying the knot.

Harbour Station booth photos and how your health plays a huge part in one’s sales

Sadly, I was sick all of last weekend and couldn’t talk or interact with people as much as I would have liked to when they were in my booth. After one minute of talking to someone I would start incessantly coughing and then have to leave the booth for water or my head was pounding so badly that I could barely manage a smile. I barely shook people’s hands and this really affected my overall sales. I made out OK, but in hindsight, being only 50% healthy at a very large and public sale is not a good thing.

Summer slowing and getting ready for an exciting Fall

artist jessica doyle's hands

Stepping back and really looking at one’s life to find what makes you happy is one thing while stepping forward in search of solace and discovering what really makes you tick tock is quite, another.

Digging in the dirt makes me happy as does renting rooms to people in my home. Spending time with family and friends is another happy thing in my life.

2010 is certainly shaping up to be a year of changes for me and I don’t see them ending but I do see them turning into more fruitful endeavors; the results of which are somewhat unknown yet shaping themselves more and more everyday.

I’ve been working on the e-commerce site and have people testing it out as we speak to make sure the little bugs are squashed and that checkout is seamless. It’s coming along and here’s a sneak peak of what the homepage looks like.

You’ll happily be able to shop by colour, collection, material, occasion, price and size. I’m adding products daily to the shop and it’ll be launching later this week.

Oh… how long have I been working on this thing and to actually see it coming together simply, feels good. There were sooooooooooooo many days when I just wanted to give up and throw in the towel. But, thanks to a few key people (Andrew, Mom, Dad, Donovan, Gus and a slew of other friends, family and acquaintances who listened to my programming and logistical nightmares and inability to cope or learn certain things) in my life, I trudged onwards.

Thank you all for the kind words too.

Also, I just listed the 2011 Sea Life inspired Wall Calendars on Etsy. They will be listed in my own shop in Canadian Dollars too if you want to wait to buy it in CAD and not USD.

New Valentine Greeting Cards and a mini giveaway

Update – comments are now closed. I will announce the winner of the four pack of Valentine’s on Tuesday! xoxo

Over the last week I have been working on a couple of new designs for Valentine’s Cards. And they are completed and listed in the shop now. The first is called Hearts on Strings and the latter is entitled The Flamboyant Heart.

Each set contains six matching greeting cards and six envelopes. Each card measures 4.25 by 5.5 inches (10,5cm by 14cm). They are blank inside so that you can write your own special greeting.

Mini Giveaway

Leave a comment on this post and you’ll be entered to win a set of four greeting cards. The set contains two Flamboyant Heart’s and two Hearts on Strings cards. This set of four greeting cards were my test prints until I got the colours corrected. Rest assured they are still cute as ever! I’ll draw the winner on Monday night.

And if you really want to make a big statement with the one you love, don’t forget that I create Tickled Pink Hearts in miniature greeting card sets of eight as posted earlier. These little sets although tiny take me longer to produce than their larger cousins.

Each set of Valentine’s themed cards are listed in the Valentines 2010 Section of my shop along with some other items I feel would make beautiful gifts for Valentine’s Day to the ones you love. Order early as my supplies of each item is limited and then there is that shipping part to! I want them to arrive on time for gift giving.

So I do have a hobby and it’s not art

Many people hold a regular job and create art or craft as their hobby. I am quite the opposite in choosing art as my career and conversely, research both vintage and antique items to sell online as my hobby. Well over a year ago I secretly opened a second shop, OLDisNEW. I sell books, paper, trinkets, collectibles and oddities from years gone by.

I’ve learned that a 1940’s Gillete Rocket Razor has much more value than WWII meat ration tokens as a collector’s item but that the reverse is true when it’s sold as an art supply.

And to quote the OLDisNEW shop announcement:

My family has lived in Eastern Canada for six generations. We have a lot of old things. I hope you find something you like and enjoy it as much as we have!.

Weekly, I’ll be featuring an item from the vintage shop here on the blog to break things up from the routine of posting art.

And soon I’ll be posting garden updates (my second hobby) as Spring continues to progress nicely along in this part of the world… Oh bring it on Baby!

Spring Magnolias – Series of 5 New Ink Drawings

Magnolias no.1 by Ink drawing by artist Jessica Doyle

Magnolias no.2 by Ink drawing by artist Jessica Doyle

Magnolias no.3 by Ink drawing by artist Jessica Doyle

Magnolias no.4 by Ink drawing by artist Jessica Doyle

Each miniature original was drawn with india ink, pilot pens and opaque white ink on various acid free card stock and are available in the Original Art/Aceo Section of the shop.

Keep an eye out for much larger 10 to 19 inch prints in the shop. They ARE coming soon! Because my miniatures are very detailed in nature I can scan them at obscenely high resolutions and am able to print them out at much larger sizes all the while retaining that detail. And so many of you have been requesting larger sizes… hang tight. They are on their way very soon. Likely in May :) xo
