Customer Appreciation Photo – George – yes, he’s a pretty fish

George the fish - drawing by artist jessica doyle - bathroom decor, wall decor

A few days ago Sue from Michigan emailed this lovely photo of George matted, framed and hanging on this bathroom wall.

Initially Sue emailed asking if I could print George at a larger than 8.5 x 11 inch size so that it would cover 12 x 16 inch wall area. I wrote back saying, that while yes, I can print it out at that size, just to keep in mind that once matted and framed a letter sized print would be around the size she had wanted.

She went ahead purchased the letter sized George about a month ago.

Sue emails…

Jessica – I have attached my framed print of “George” and he looks wonderful in my remodeled bathroom… Thank you so much for brightening my day – every day – when I look at him. I have received so many compliments on the picture. They all love it.

And continues on after I wrote asking for permission to share the photo with you all here on the blog,

You sure can share it with everyone. You should be so proud of him because every time I look at him, I smile, and that’s so important these days. Being in my bathroom he gets frequented often and it’s so much fun to just look at him and smile.

Have a great weekend and thanks again for your wonderful talent!

Sue

Thank you Sue!

George, the pretty fish is available in three sizes…

  1. Limited Edition ACEO Sized George
  2. 5×7 Inch George
  3. Letter Sized George

The Original illustration of George was purchased by a local Canadian Art Collector 18 months ago.

Introducing Shayla Maddox – contributing writer

shayla maddox, artist

I met Shayla a while back in early 2008 on Etsy. We quickly become friends and even exchange handmade Christmas balls at Christmas each year with each other. While we have never met in real life, she is as dear to me as the friends I have in real life. And above that, she understands what it’s like to work online and be self employed in the fine art and illustration business. She is a beautiful person inside and out.

Shayla lives with her husband and works out of her home studio in Southern California. Shayla will be contributing one blog post each Wednesday to the Art & Musings blog. Her posts will be about… to quote her…

A bit back I suddenly had this burst of an epiphany, from watching Sex and The City no less (which I wouldn’t say I watch regularly or am even a fan of, but there was nothing else on while I was sitting on the ground working on my Christmas balls and now I’m thinking it was bizarrely fated that I watched it.) Anyway, I suddenly saw myself writing a column, a Carrie Bradshaw like column, though discussing art and life as opposed to dating in NYC.

And a bit more about Shyala in her own words…

I paint, and travel, and absorb the universe. And then I paint about those things. My work is a blend of science, Zen style, and Sacred Geometry.

I am inspired by stars, moons, sunsets, tropical beaches, humidity, coloring books, crayons, glo-worms and lite-brites, the Disneyland Main Street Electrical Parade, Jules Verne, The Science Channel, ancient technology and civilizations, the study of the universe, spirituality, stained glass windows, sea glass, telescopes, down-tempo music, Zen wisdom, rainbows, fireflies, water and light.

You can read Shayla’s personal Blog here and visit her Etsy Shop here.

Her first post will be up tomorrow!

Welcome Shayla! xo

Saying thank you to my internet art supply and book angels

pencil crayons, coloured pencils

Today, to my surprise I received a delightful box from Charles Smith in the mail. A few months ago he had written to ask if there were any art supplies that I needed as he was traveling to Japan where art supplies are cheap and plentiful as opposed to here in Eastern Canada.

After numerous emails from Charles I finally conceded and I wrote back and asked if he’d pick me up a few Pilot Choose Pens in white as my one lone one had all but run out. Well, I opened the box and there were five pens, two boxes of Prismacolor 36 pack Verithin coloured pencils and one box of Prismacolor 12 pack Watercolor pencil crayons. OMG. I was in tears. My pencil crayons were running out fast so this colourful box of goodies has really brightened my day. Continue reading

Series of Greeting Cards – A Little Something

The flowers are just beginning to show themselves here popping up through the ground in the port city of Saint John. For me this is generally a very happy time of year where most of the drawings and illustrations that I completed during Wintertime are scanned and turned into prints and paper goods.

Customer Appreciation Photos!

Recently a few customers of mine have posted their photos of artwork they have purchased from me to their Facebook account and tagged said photo with my name. Oddly enough they are all from men. ;)

The first is from Chris who purchased Baby Shower, for his wife when he found out she was pregnant, for their babies nursery.

The second is from Andrew. He purchased both Radiant Melana and Grace.

The third is from Scott who has purchased multiple pieces for gifts. The artwork he tagged is of Set It Free which you can grab the 5×7 version for free from the Free Downloads page.

Thanks so much guys for showing me how you have displayed my artwork. If you have pictures of my art on display feel free to send them to me. I’d love to see them! My email is eastvanesica _AT_ gmail {dot} com.

And conversely do add me as a friend on facebook for regular updates. i’m hoping to get a Facebook Fanpage set up and running soon. I’ll announce here when it’s live!

UPDATE – KJ McLean from MyCreatedLife just emailed me her photo of Milton the Fish, Annabelle the Fish and Emily the Fish! so cute! Love your kitty cat staring up at them! Thank you KJ!

Happy Thanksgiving

Today I am thankful to be alive albeit sick with the flu.
Today I am thankful to have you in my life.
Today I am thankful to be earning a living with my art.
Today I am thankful to own my own home.
Today I am thankful Missy is better and blinking that eye again.
Today I am humbled.

And there is so much more that I am thankful for but I am sick and moving a little slower than usual and must step away from the computer to begin the weekly housekeeping of the tenants rooms today so that later I can relax at my folks place for turkey dinner. Yum! xo

I Won – The Most Wall Worthy Art Contest!

The best intentions to write this post yesterday withered as the day progressed, and sleepiness combined with the inability to concentrate swept over me. The excitement of winning first place and having three room rental tenants move into my house on the same day was slightly overwhelming.

I slept for 10 hours last night.
