A tiger and one yawning mouse – childhood drawings from 1984

childhood drawings of Jessica Doyle from 1984 - one tiger and one yawning mouse

If you are an artist you’ve likely been drawing since you were very young in age. These are two of my ink drawings from 1984. I would have been 11 years old when I drew both of these on pretty pink and yellow papers with a blue Bic pen.

I can remember spending hours (weeks) flipping through animal books or encyclopedias and doing my best to draw what I saw printed on the page. It’s funny how over time, I’ve removed myself from drawing reality to that of drawing what you can’t see.

The yawning mouse makes me laugh!

Each of the drawings measure 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches (8,2cm by 8,2cm).

  1. Awww that’s so cool that you’ve kept your childhood artwork! I’m sure it was obvious to everyone even then that you’d grow up to become an artist; there is no mistaking your tiger for a horse. đŸ˜‰

  2. Except my roommate looked at the yawning mouse and thought it appeared to be a vagina. Haha! I said “But there are teeth?”. We had a good laugh.

  3. Yes, I guess so Deb. Although, sometimes when drawing I feel strangely pulled to the left. Perhaps, it is society that is causing the leftwards pull.

  4. That is so great! I love going back and looking through my old art and remembering the endless hours of work that went into them! Wonderful memories! :) Just came across your blog today… so glad I did. Your work is beautiful! Happy to follow your journey here!

  5. Im still laughing at the vagina comment! lol! Anyways that is so cool you still have the sketches! When I was younger I was bad and drew in books. I have found some at my moms where I drew in the front and back cover. Trying to draw like the books Illustrator. And my youngest saw them and says’who wrote in this book mom?’ I said I dont know but they were bad right? He said Yes! I bet their mom was real mad! LOL!
